Workshop exploring mark making and use of line. Ideal for beginners to drawing. All materials Included.
Making a mark or drawing a line is the simplest thing to do and yet can often feel like the hardest when we are faced with a blank page! Your personality, intention and energy all show in the marks you make whilst drawing, it’s like your handwriting, unique to you.
Spend an afternoon expanding your ‘creative handwriting’ through a series of guided drawing exercises that will challenge and inspire you. You will use charcoal ink, paint and more with a variety of tools on different papers, discovering how adjusting your grip, speed or pressure can create unexpected and exciting lines and marks.
You will compile your drawing studies into a simple sketchbook to take home with you that will become a source of inspiration and possibility for your future work.
Suitable for beginners and improvers wanting to expand their expressive drawing vocabulary. Useful for A level and Foundation course students.

Meet The Tutor
Petra Couper
Petra Couper is a Fine Art Graduate, artist and PGCE qualified tutor. She has over thirty years teaching experience in Cardiff schools. She teaches a range of Fine Art disciplines and also runs The Art Workshop Acrylics Painting groups, in her popular weekly daytime or evening classes.

Rhiwbina train station is close by, and there are regular Cardiff buses to the village.
Rhiwbina has a range of great independent shops to browse in and cafes if you need to wait. We recommend Snails Deli, the Secret Shed, The Whittaker Lounge church café, Coffee Labs and Parsons Bakery. There are several parks to enjoy, as well as the historic listed Garden Village, and Rhiwbina Library will be reopening soon after its refurbishment. We are sorry you cannot wait in Lon Fach which only has private parking, but there is ample on street parking around the corner in the village.
Please discuss any different ability requirements with us before booking your course. The Art Workshop studios are in a 1920’s former carriage workshop in historic Rhiwbina Garden Village. We have a studio on the ground floor which has wheelchair access. There is no public parking in Lon Fach outside the studios, but we can arrange some help with parking as we have one dedicated space next to the building. Sometimes larger classes are held in the main studio on the first floor, which is accessed by a flight of stairs with handrails on both sides, and there is no lift.
We are sorry we cannot offer refunds, discounts or transfers for classes missed for any reason, as your place is reserved for you and cannot be given to anyone else, tutors booked and preparations made. Cancellation less than two weeks before the start of a course or workshop date will be charged.
Tea and Coffee are available, the team is always happy to make a round of hot drinks before class starts. There's an honesty jam jar for contributions which are much appreciated. You are welcome to bring your own refreshments too, we just ask that you take any packaging, cups, cans etc away as we are limited to the amount of waste we produce.
Please come to the side entrance and ring the doorbell for admission. Classes may be in progress so please be patient until a member of the team arrives.
Rhiwbina Village has on street parking just a minute's walk from the studios. There is no parking in Lon Fach outside the studios, but if you have any mobility needs please let us know as we may be able to make arrangements for you.
